The 3 million population cosmopolitan seaport of Buenos Aires is constantly buzzing with energy. As you’ll surely learn soon after your arrival, this is an energy that doesn’t dissipate at night; on the contrary, during the weekend the bar scene won’t even start heating up until at least 11 pm. And once a night of bar hopping in Buenos Aires gets started, it often won’t stop until dawn.

If it’s your first time bar hopping in Buenos Aires, you’re probably overwhelmed by the vast variety of choices.

Centro

Partying in the Centro of town? Get your night started at La Cigale. It has an impressive drink menu, not to mention live music and an awesome 2 for 1 happy hour that lasts from 6-9 pm every day. You can find it at 25 de Mayo 597, a prime location in the center of the city to kick off a night of bar hopping in Buenos Aires.

When you’re finished at La Cigale, why not continue the faux-French theme at Le Bar? Located at Tucumán 422, this is a huge old house-turned-bar with a lovely terrace that serves lots of delicious, classy drinks. Featuring an eccentric array of live music, Le Bar is the place to be if you’re looking for a laid-back yet slightly sophisticated way to get the night rolling. Note: If you’re looking for a place to party on a weeknight a little bit earlier than usual, check out the 2 for 1 happy hour, between 6-10 pm.

San Telmo

Hip and trendy San Telmo is the perfect place to start off a night of bar hopping in Buenos Aires. The recently-opened Dogtown bar at Bolivar 673 is way bigger inside than it appears from the outside, and even has a pool table that draws in partygoers of all ages until the wee hours of the morning. Happy hour is between 6-11 pm daily.

Who’s your doppelganger? Maybe you’ll find one at Doppelganger, a chic yet classic bar featuring a delectable menu and unique drinks. Check it out at Juan de Garay 500, and don’t forget about the Tues-Fri happy hour that lasts from 7 to 9 pm.

Palermo

We couldn’t possibly write a guide to bar hopping in Buenos Aires and not include Palermo, the number-one party area in the city. No matter where you start off a night in Palermo, you won’t be able to turn around without seeing at least 5 other happenin’ bars. One of our favorites is Mundo Bizarro, located at Serrano 1222. This bar has got it all: creative artwork, delicious cocktails and an overall buena onda (good vibes).
