Mendoza is one of Argentina’s most beautiful cities. It is a bustling and energetic metropolis that basks daily in a perpetually warm and sunny climate. It rests at the feet of the majestic Andes, under one of the highest peaks in the Americas – Aconcagua - which stands at a towering 22,835 ft/6,960 m. It is a modern city - one filled with tree lined avenues, parks, and plazas. Its surrounding suburbs overflow with gardens and orchards and just outside of town lie many picturesque and world famous wineries. Nearby is the Christ the Redeemer Statue and the Puente del Inca, a natural stone bridge 150 ft/45 m long and about 90 ft/25 m high, beneath which are nestled ancient Inca ruins. Mendoza’s pleasant weather is also ideal for many outdoor activities, and there are many such options in close proximity - such as mountain climbing, trekking, river rafting, wind sailing, and several world class ski destinations.

Uyuni, founded in 1890, is located in the Potosi Department in the south of Bolivia. It lies at the edge of an extensive plain at an elevation of 3670 meters above sea level, with more mountainous country to the east. It is an important transport hub, being the location of a major railway junction from La Paz (via Oruro), Potosí, and Villazón (on the Argentinean border, where the line now ends).
The undeniable beauty of the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, with its yet unexploited lithium wealth, is one of the most frequented tourist destinations in Bolivia. The unique greatness of this place, its landscapes, Green and Red Lagoons, flora and fauna, we find three species of flamingos here, makes your visit to the southwest an unforgettable experience. |
Weather in this area is desert-like in altitude (Altiplano) and with a marked thermo oscillation. Hot days can drastically drop to cold nights. If you are taking the 3-day 4WD excursion to Atacama, we recommend that you pack warm clothes for the night. |
Uyuni can be visited all year long, but the best months are June to September as summer can be hot and rainy. |
If you have arrived to Uyuni from San Pedro de Atacama after doing the 4WD trip, that means that you have already visited the Uyuni Salt Flat and we just recommend spending one night in this small town to relax to take a rest for your following adventures. If you are in Uyuni but not planning to take the 4WD tour to Atacama, a stay of two nights will be enough to take a full day excursion to the largest Salta Falt in the world.
