Description

This amazing tour will take you on trails reaching the pristine landscapes of Torres del Paine! Amazing glaciers, lakes, forests and the mighty Paine Towers, will provide a constant delight for your trekking-hungry soul!

Important: This trip offers daily departures from El Calafate or Punta Arenas, and the activity of each day will depend on the day of the week. You will be able to choose an easy or an active option each day, while enjoying superb comfort and ease at the exclusive Patagonia domes, a unique experience of accommodation.

*This itinerary is available also for 3 and 4 days, don`t hesitate to request it.

Day 1 - The Patagonian Adventure Starts…

The trip starts in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales or El Calafate (Argentina). We will take you to the world famous Torres del Paine National Park.

During southern summer the sun sets around 11 pm, so as you drive in you’ll have plenty of light to admire the Patagonian steppe with its guanaco and snow-peaked mountain horizon. Before arriving though, there are a couple stops. One is at Puerto Natales, a small but lively town on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza - “Last Hope Sound”. You are invited to check out the town, leave any luggage you will not need for the trek in our office, and finally enjoy a hearty lunch with delicious local food. The other stop is at Cueva de Milodon, a massive prehistoric cave where the remains of a giant ground sloth were discovered in the 1890’s. The surrounding area is very scenic with plenty of wild birds to be seen. The day ends with a dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 2 - Excursion in Torres del Paine (Trek Towers Base)

This day you can choose between any of the activities offered at the Lodge. There are easy and active options, and the excursion of each day will depend on the day of the week, according to the schedule of the Lodge.
Easy level excursions include Drive & Walk Western Lakes, Navigation Glacier Gery, Easy walk or bike Laguna Azul, Sarmiento Lake and Fauna Trail, Wild Horses tracking.

Active Level activities include Drive & Walk Western Lakes, Hike Cerro Ferrier, Trek Towers Base, Navigation on Lake Pehoe and Hike along French Valley, Lazo Weber Hike or Cerro Paine.

A great possibility for your first day would be to Trek the Towers Base, the most famous trekking trail in Torres del Paine NP. Here, you will walk from the Camp and start the winding uphill path to Ascencio Valley. Dry mountain spots, beech forests and small rivers are passed along the scenic walk into the valley. It’s not a difficult walk, but energy should nevertheless be saved for the final challenge: the moraine. This mass of boulders is the last guardian before your face to face meeting with the uplifting Torres del Paine. The moraine is sufficiently steep to consider doing it slowly and with an adequate amount of precaution. After a considerable effort, the Towers come into full view, rising majestically in front of you with the glacial lake visible below. This is one of the most breathtaking sights of the world! The famous Torres del Paine (2, 900 m/ 9, 400 ft) consist of three gigantic granite monoliths, the remains of a great cirque sheared away by the forces of glacial ice. There, you can have lunch with this impressive view and then return to the camp along the Ascencio Valley.

Day 3 - Excursion in Torres del Paine (Navigation to Glacier Gery)

Spend another day at this impressive National Park, where you will be able to choose between any of the scheduled activities (Easy or Active Level) for the day of the week.
A good choice for your third day could be to take the Navigation to Glacier Grey. If you decide to take this excursion, you will hike from Paine Grande Lodge along the shores of mountain-lined Lake Pehoe to the northern end of glacial Lake Grey.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch and then board the boat that sails to the blue face of Glacier Grey. You’ll navigate through the lake and marvel at this calving glacier with its floating pieces of ice. If the weather conditions do not allow taking the navigation through Lake Grey, you’ll instead hike to Glacier. Then, at Pudeto you will board the catamaran to cross Lake Pehoe. From there, you will take a short drive back to the lodge, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 4 - Excursion in Torres del Paine (Navigation on Lake Pehoe and Hike along French Valley)

It’s time to choose between any of the activities offered by the Lodge for you last day in Torres del Paine NP! A great possibility would be to take Navigation on Lake Pehoe and Hike along French Valley.

In case you take this tour, after breakfast you will start your day driving towards Pudeto dock, located by the shores of Pehoe Lake. Once there, you wil board the catamaran that will take you to the northern west sector of the Lake from where you will start the challenging trek to Valle Frances (French Valley), taking a steep trail that goes into the very heart of the Paine Massif.
How deep you go depends on the groups’ rhythm. An active walk leads to the hanging bridge over the French River, located at the foot of the south east face of the Massif. From this point, you can enjoy a truly wonderful view and then continue up the trail until reaching the upper prospects of the valley.
After taking a picnic in this gorgeous scenario, an optional trek to Mirador Britanico is available as well, it’s very intense but the entire group of geological formations of the high valley can be admired here: Hoja (Blade), Máscara (Mask), Espada (Sword), Catedral (Cathedral), Aleta de Tiburón (Shark’s Fin) and the magnificent Fortaleza (Fortress)!
You will descend through an undulating terrain of mixed grassland and light forest until reaching the Refugio Paine Grande, located in the peaceful shores of Lake Pehoe.

Over all our entire trip to Chile and Argentina was really wonderful.

Ursula,

Thank you for checking on us.

We are back home in Albuquerque. A day later than we planned due to a malfunction on a plane with American Airlines in Miami. All is good, we are happy to be home.

Iguazu was absolutely beautiful and amazing. The tour guide Adrian and his driver Daniel were very good. Adrian was very informative, attentive and professional, nice guy. The top 4 highlights for us were Iguazu Falls, Perrito Moreno in El Calafate and Torres del Paine in Chile and of course spending quality time with you in Buenos Aires, your insight and knowledge is tremendous.
Many other things were really nice too but those were are top four. We loved the Tango show and the next day we ventured out using the subway visiting Recoletta and the Botanical gardens.

We wanted to mention that we did not get to the Holiday Inn till midnight although our flight from Iguazu Falls landed at airport at 10 pm, after luggage was picked up we departed about 10:30 for Holiday Inn, we do not know if this is the norm (1 ½ hours) . I think the driver got lost, not sure.

So now we are concerned because we have 2 ½ hours to sleep so we can get picked up at 3am. We asked the driver
If his company was going to pick us up at 3am and he said “yes but another person”. We asked him if we could get picked up later , maybe 3:30 pm or 4 pm so we can sleep a little more, we were so tired after being at Iguazu Falls all day walking, heat and humidity and flight. He called someone and they told him that they could not change the time, so we had stay with the 3 am pick up.
We now realized the airport was only less than 10 minutes away. So we got to International Airport and had a lot waiting time for our 6am flight. It would have been better if we could have a little more time to sleep. Maybe a 4am pick up would have been better.

Over all our entire trip to Chile and Argentina was really wonderful.
It was so nice to meet you.
Take Care
Becca and Joe

Seamless transitions through each destination with pick up, hotel, tour etc.

Hi Vanessa,

We had a great trip and please see comments below:

We saw good reviews of Say Hueque on Trip Advisor and all other travel agency seemed more expensive for the similar itineraries we were interested in. Sara used the "Contact Us" link on your website to ask 2 distinctive questions but received generic replies from Lucia and Veronica. Specific answers would have been more appreciated. But when Tom contacted Patricio he replied with specific answers to our questions so we ended up communicating only with him and he has been responsive and helpful.

All hotels recommended and we ultimately selected were good. We chose EcoCamp ourselves specifically and paid good money for it, but it is the most unique and memorable. The hotel offered by Say Hueque in El Calafate "Madre Tierra" is clean, quiet and in a good location. We enjoyed it very much.

We asked to include EcoCamp into the itinerary and Patricio worked it out so it is much appreciated. However, we had to take the bus all the way to Puerto Natales to be picked up by EcoCamp. The pick up from Puerto Natales was a waste of time only to have a short visit in the office and have a lunch. Then a short 30-min visit to Cuerva De Mylodon was thrown in to make up for it we guess. But we lost at least 3-4 hours. We could have been picked up at the border crossing and go directly to EcoCamp. We wouldn't have cared for the lunch. At the end we arrived at EcoCamp at 7:30pm, nearly 12 hours on the road; while the way back we arrived back in El Calafate before 12pm with a drop off from EcoCamp directly at the border. We know this could be a requirement from EcoCamp, not by Say Hueque, but for future guests you may work it out with EcoCamp better?

Also, we were shocked to be asked to throw away fresh fruits, nuts and sandwiches when entering Patagonia and to Chile. This may be a known fact for Argentinians but many other travelers were equally surprised. For Say Hueque to put a notice in the itinerary, similar to what you reminded us for the National Park Entrance Fees, would be helpful and to avoid unnecessary food waste.

We really wanted to do the Mini Trekking in addition to the Perito Moreno excursion offered by Say Hueque. But it will mean we return to the park again and do some of the activities again. Is there anyway Say Hueque can combine the two? Our return from Moreno trip was 2:30pm so we could have stayed much longer with the summer long days. We would much prefer to do the mini trek in the morning, then a boat trip, then the walk on the walkways.

But thank you for a wonderful trip when we have time we will update tripadvisor for you.

Tom and Sara

4.my favorite activity was of course the W trek but all excursions were great.
5. I would name Rodrigo, dont know if he is a guide tho.. he kept me easy and unworried and he always did his best at all times.
