Tour Perito Moreno’s majestic glacier, hike Patagonia and cruise the scenic lakes of Argentina and Chile. Discover Torres del Paine, Los Glaciares and Tierra del Fuego National Parks on this 18 day Patagonia adventure throughout Argentina and Chile. Day 1 – Travel to Argentina & Chile - First stop Buenos Aires

Welcome to Argentina!
Capital of Argentina and described as the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires proudly embraces this title, as well as shows off plenty of its own culture! Explore the traditional European architecture, the cobbled streets lined with rustic outdoor cafes, the local antique and artisanal markets that offer plenty of bargain shopping, and the mouthwatering aroma of prized Argentine beef sizzling on an open “parrrilla” (barbeque) in the air. Buenos Aires is home to some excellent local designers and you will certainly find the perfect leather jacket, long leather boots and handbags for all occasions. Though above all, Buenos Aires is known as the home of the tango. Be sure to enjoy a traditional dinner-tango show and explore the colorful San Telmo and Recoleta neighborhoods.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires you will be met at the airport and have a transfer in private to your hotel. Look for the sign with your name.

You will have the rest of the day to enjoy this vibrant city, leaving you the remainder of the day to explore the historic neighborhoods and enjoy the cafe culture of Buenos Aires.

Duration: 4-5 hours.

In the evening you will be picked up from your hotel to be driven to one of Buenos Aires’ most emblematic cultural highlights: a Dinner and Tango Show offering a spectacular demonstration of the finest local dancing accompanied by delicious Argentine cuisine and all the malbec you’d like. At the end of the evening you will be driven back to your hotel.

This journey includes crossing the Andean lakes partly by boat and partly on bus through the various unpaved passes to the other side.

The pristine lake waters and the mountains on both sides are an embodiment of calmness and peace. During the trip you will cross Lago Nahuel Huapi where it is joined by the Rio Negro with its ethereal green waters (due to the suspended minerals reflecting the sunlight), Lago Frias, with its completely different colors, and Lago Esmeralda (Lago Todos los Santos).

The lakes, surrounded by Tronador Mountain, Osorno volcano and Volcan Punta Gudo, as well as protected and untouched forest, are a gift from the nature that you will experience in a long day that deserves every minute.

The Andean Lakes Crossing is the most scenic way to travel from Argentina to Chile.

The trip finishes in your hotel in Puerto Varas.

ARGENTINE & CHILEAN PATAGONIA – 18 Days

I didn't have the sense that I was being pushed into any pre-existing configuration that suited the travel agent rather than my interests.

I was networking for a travel outfitter that has deep experience in Patagonia travel and was given an endorsement.
Agustin was a pleasure - always responsive, engaging, authentic. I didn't have the sense that I was being pushed into any pre-existing configuration that suited the travel agent rather than my interests.

Regarding hotels, Explora was our favorite by far. The setting, the service, the quality of the experience is world-class. We didn't have a least favorite.

One of the happiest days of my life was galloping with a gaucho and guide across the pampas (Explora). On multiple rides I was alone w/ the gaucho and guide and no other guests. The guides were super - engaging, warm, respectful. I particularly enjoyed the tent experience at el Chalten too. That was a first.

*Ceci greeted us at Buenos Aires when we first arrived - she made us feel welcome and we greatly enjoyed her during the time we spent in the car with her. She also followed up with some much appreciated notes to inquire how we were doing.

Kareen at Explora, head of hospitality, is superb. Amy had food poisoning and was laid up for 4 days. Kareen ensured that every need including a trip to a hospital 2 hours away on a mostly dirt road was well organized and executed (she assigned a driver and a translator from her staff).

*Notable guides at the Explora include Mica (superb - warm, engaging), Kera (spelling? was lots of fun), Santiago (who appreciated I just wanted to cantor/gallop and made that happen), and Daniel (a guide who is first class at photography - we filmed at 1:00 a.m. together the night sky). Also greatly enjoyed our explora driver Ivan (former Chilean special forces).

There was one important issue. As a photographer coming for the photography, I understood that my guide for the 2 day el Chalten hike would be a photographer. I was quite surprised to learn that the assigned guide, Lois, didn't even own a camera and certainly doesn't see himself as a photographer.

The other issue was that due to Say Huque not breaking out costs in any way, I couldn't assess whether Say Huque was a good value that I can recommend and use again or not (experientially Say Huque was a good value). I know Argentina and Chile are very low cost countries given the deflation of their respective currencies vs the US dollar. I don't know whether we had any of that benefit.

We loved paradise valley and the boat navigation to the glaciers

I chose to travel with Say Hueque because my friends (Siddharth and Kanta) already decided to go w Say Hueque and we jumped on to their recommendation so we could join them.

The booking process was really easy. We were back and forth on whether we wanted to go, whether we should afford to go, but once we decided, Say Hueque was right there to help us (even tho we were potentially flaky clients).

We loved all the hotels bc they were all different. The hotel in Puerto Natales was probably my favorite b/c we had an amazing view and the food was so good. But we also loved the domos. So compact and cool and the food at the domos was awesome and the staff was so good.

We loved paradise valley and the boat navigation to the glaciers.

Anita was a wonderful guide. I noticed that some of the guides chattered non-stop. Anita was comfortable with being quiet which worked great for us. I'm going to recommend her to all my friends, in addition to Say Hueque.

I think we had a difficult trip to arrange with short notice and it worked out really well. I would warn people about the bus crossing the border btwn Chile and Argentina. It took much longer than predicted but it still worked out. I was able to get an email to Mery who postponed our next van transport so it all worked out. Also, the Folks Hostel folks seemed surprised and maybe annoyed that we were waiting there for our next van transport. You may want to talk to them. We were not there long but one staff person talked to the driver for a long time and she did not look happy. But we ignored it and got on the van, plus we were not at Folks Hostel very long.

We would recommend Say Hueque to anyone (and already have).

Say Hueque provided us with a customized itinerary with hotels that exactly matched our request for a mix of sight-seeing in Argentina and hiking in Patagonia (Argentina and Chile). All travel arrangements and tours were pre-arranged for hotel and airport (international and domestic) pick-ups and drop-offs, and these services were right on time and provided by very pleasant and helpful staff. The hotels were great and many of them had excellent restaurants that made it easy to enjoy the local cuisine. Especially memorable were Fierro Hotel (Eco Restaurant), Estancia Helsingfors and Las Torres Hotel.

Given that we did not want to be part of a larger tour group (12-16 people), this approach worked best for us. The booking staff (Lucia and Yuna) and our in-country hostess (Ursula) were all available prior to and during our trip, which made this “bucket-list” 18-day vacation very easy for us at a more-than-competitive cost.

We would recommend Say Hueque to anyone (and already have).
