Walking City Tour & Sailing Llanquihue Lake

The best way to see the Puerto Varas is walking through this city with unmistakable German-inspired architecture, modern residential developments and beautiful gardens. While walking, you’ll be sure to spot the colorful and impressive Sacred Heart of Jesus Church which dates back to the 1850s and offers a look at the strong Germany history of the region. From there, you will past two overlooks on the Calvario and Phillipi Hills that offer spectacular views. The traditional Kuschel and Niklitschek houses will also be major stops on your tour before boarding a boat to sail the crystal waters of Llanquihue Lake and gliding around the Bay of Puerto Varas.

Osorno Volcano & Petrohue

Follow the shoreline until you arrive at Ensenada to the Osorno Ski & Mountain center, located at 1.240 meters of altitude, where you will begin the trek. Along the way you will see snowy glaciers, the Calbuco volcano, Llanquihue Lake and the Pacific Ocean. You’ll travel along Llanquihue Lake, passing the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes until you arrive at Petrohué in Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. Here, you’ll be amazed by the bright turquoise color of the Petrohué River. You’ll continue on to the “Petrohué River Falls” where the river jumps over larges masses of crystallized lava.

Alerce Andino National Park

Discover the natural beauty of one of Chile’s lush national parks. During this tour, you will start out traveling past fields that have been used by people since the first German settlers arrived. These fields remain in the hands of their descendants today. Alcere Andino National Park spans 39.255 hectares with a great diversity of flora and fauna, including an evergreen forest of trees like, Mañío, Coigue, Lenga, Canelo, Tepa and the Native Forest of Alerce. Among the abundant fauna here lives the Chilean Deer, Puma and the Pudú, also birds such as the Black Woodpecker, the Peuco and the Kingfisher.

Osorno Volcano

 

Follow the shoreline until you arrive at Ensenada to the Osorno Ski & Mountain center, located at 1.240 meters of altitude, where you will begin the trek. Petrohué Tour

Llanquihue, Frutillar & Puerto Octay

Visit Llanquihue a city famous for sausage and part of the ancient Settlers Route. You’ll then make your way to Fruitllar, which started in 1856 as a pier, but grew into a city as tanneries, mills, and breweries appeared. Discover the German roots from the traditional houses and the colorful gardens here. You may opt to go the German Colonial Museum, which dives deeper into history. By the lakeshore, find Teatro del Lago (Lake Theater) which hosts Frutillar Musical Week annually in an exposition of classical music from Chile and beyond. City Tour Puerto Montt & Puerto Varas

 

Get to know the city of Puerto Varas, known as “The City of Roses.” Visit the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church built as an exact replica of a church in Black Forest, Germany by the first settlers.  Continue to the Settlers Route passing Alerce village on your way to Puerto Montt. From there, notice the strong German influence of the architecture seen in the houses, gardens and buildings, all which embody a mixing of cultures.
