SALTA & JUJUY / Best of Northwest – 5 Days

Visit Great Salt Flats, Hill of 7 Colors & colonial Salta

On the Tour Salta and Jujuy – Best of the Northwest you will quickly discover why Salta is locally known as ‘La Linda’ (The Beautiful). One of the best preserved colonial cities, Salta is the perfect base for your adventures in the northwest of Argentina. Tour the stunning Humahuaca Gorge and giant Salt Flats on the Safari to the Cloud adventure, and discover the local culture of the traditional Andean towns. And with nearby wineries, white water rafting and horse riding available, why not stay a few more days?!

Day 1 – Your Adventure in Argentina: Salta

Welcome to Salta! One of traveler’s favorite cities, Salta offers outstanding museums, colonial architecture, alive cafés in the main plaza (great people watching spot) and the vibrant and authentic peñas -places where locals grab a table to watch their favorite folkloric singers and after a wine (or two) everyone join for dancing. The perfect base to explore the Argentinean north.

Upon arrival you will be driven to your hotel (shared service) having the rest of the afternoon to explore the town. Since city stress has not arrived here, bare in mind that during siesta time most shops are closed.

Day 2 - Salta Tours : Salt Flats and Humahuaca Gorge

You will leave Salta in a two-day excursion (shared service). We recommend you to leave your luggage in your hotel in Salta, and just take a day pack on the excursion.

Early in the morning we will travel along the same route of the famous Train to the Clouds, zigzagging on lonely roads between the blue sky and the high desert plains. On our way, we will visit historic ruins, scattered houses, small villages and amazing landscapes.

Our first destination is the small town of Campo Quijano and later the impressive Quebrada del Toro, where we will stop for a refreshing coffee break after some stunning viewpoints. From here, we will visit Santa Rosa de Tastil, a pre-Incan city of the XIII century. Later on, we visit San Antonio de los Cobres, one of the smallest villages in the region, en route to the surreal landscape of the Great Salt Flats. These are perfect for amateur and professional photographers alike -the natural light and reflections provide ample opportunities to test your creativity to the fullest.

Later in the afternoon we will arrive to our comfortable hotel in Purmamarca, located at the base of Jujuy’s famed 7-colored mountain. Overnight in Purmamarca.

Day 3 – Humahuaca Gorge, Salta & Jujuy trips

You will depart at the indicated time (shared service) for a tour along the Humahuaca Gorge, declared a UNESCO Heritage Site. Day 4 – Salta

You will have the opportunity to relax at your own pace. You can explore by foot the Colonial Area (some of the highlights are the Cathedral, the Franciscan church and the San Bernardo convent), visit the world famous museum MAAM, where a few mummies rescued from the hight Andes are exhibit or just sit in one of the many live cafés in the main square.

We highly recommend to visit a Peña and mix with the locals eating empanadas and dancing Folklore.

We loved everything travelling with you. Guides and Patti were amazing!

Hi Patti,

I found you on Google. Lots of positive reviews about you. Patricio was very responsive and patient with me as we made many different changes to the itinerary. Your costs we're also very good for the quality of hotels and trips we requested.
We loved everything travelling with you. We were very appreciative of all the re-booking and changes you made as we were in Argentina - from flights to hotels to even dinner reservations.

Our favourite Hotel in Buenos Aires was the Fierro Hotel and Design Suites in Salta. UCO Restaurant was amazing!
In El Calafate we had wonderful guides and the weather was perfect. The glaciers are truly a sight to see and there aren't many left in the world.

Every guide we had was amazing and we were very impressed with their level of English. Patti was amazing and we absolutely loved Fernando for our Salta excursions. He was fantastic.

Maybe one thing to improve: I think it would have helped to give us some tips before traveling - things like Reciprocity Visa, exchanging money, travel/safety tips.

Best regards,
Noam and Emma

The trip was fabulous. EVERYTHING was taken care of.

Hello Patty,

Sorry this has taken so long! I am on Facebook and have shared SO many pictures on there so feel free to use them as needed. Here is my survey, feel free to use it as well!

My friend Don and Julie Weissbanger had used your agency three years ago and recommended you highly. I was trying to do my own research and set everything up and I was completely overwhelmed and confused on my own.
EVERYTHING was taken care of and I had a phone to call 24 hours/day, my highlight of traveling with you!
I loved every accommodation for it's own reasons but Sheraton Iguazu and Dazzler Palermo were probably my favorites for their location and service.

SOOOO many guides that were great but Federico in Salta and 2 tour guides in Easter Island (julia and teranji) really stand out . Easter Island tours were perfect. Guides were so knowledgeable and answered our numerous questions with accuracy.

I only would have liked more breakfast choices for a vegetarian and I wish I could have pre-paid for dinner and had it at the hotels. Most of our hotels arranged for dinner if planned ahead of time. When I asked about that during planning, I was told it was not possible. I was usually tired after a full day of activity and I just wanted something easy and convenient. I know most people like to try new restaurants but I'm not like that.

All of our pick ups, drop offs, tours were PERFECT until we got to Buenos Aires. Which I thought would the best since we were in Sayhueque's home town. Our Dinner/Tango pick up was late picking us up and it took 1.5 hours to pick up everyone else! I felt the Dinner/Tango place was out to simply make money off tourists. They constantly trying to sell programs, CDs, etc so they would not let us take even one photo of the show. They didn't tell me they didn't have my ONE vegetarian ravioli as a choice so they simply brought me spaghetti. No explanation until I asked. The getting back on the bus to our hotel was a bit of a confusing mess. Show was good though so other issues not really a big deal.
The tour I was most unhappy with was our two city tours. Santiago tour was late pick up but guide was good so all was forgotten. The worst was our Buenos Aires city tour. Each stop to pick up others was at least 10 - 15 minutes and passengers weren't ready. Tour guide was CONSTANTLY on the phone and would stop mid sentence to answer her phone. Then she asked where we wanted to stay at the end of the tour ( go back to hotel or stay in Recoleta). It felt like a rushed decision bc we didn't know which area we wanted to visit. But she seemed like she was just happy to get rid of us, so we left after the cemetery and had a fabulous day on our own.

STILL trip was fabulous!!

IF you have more questions, I'd be happy to give you more positive feedback. Hotels were clean, great staff, well situated and in safe areas so we could explore on foot easily. LOVED having access to Patty
