USHUAIA The End Of The World

Hiking & Navigation in Ushuaia - 3 days

Come to explore the end of the world in this 3 day adventurous trip. The Southernmost city of the world offers a range of impossible-to-be-forgotten landscapes, outdoor activities and animal life, that will make this short trip a life time experience.Enjoy the views of the Beagle Channel, hike in the Tierra del Fuego National Park and enjoy some of the best seafood of the world. A perfect trip for all ages, an excellent option to know the top drawer attractions in Ushuaia.

Day 1 – Travel to Patagonia: Ushuaia

Ushuaia is a small town, really easy to get around on foot. The Yamanas, its first inhabitants, called it Ushuaia which means “protected bay” in their language. It was officially incorporated into the Republic of Argentina in 1884, and it soon became a penal colony, in order to establish a permanent Argentine settlement.

Upon arrival in Ushuaia, you will be taken to your selected hotel. Take the afternoon to explore the town or visit one of its curious museums—the Thematic Gallery of the “Historia Fueguina”, a kid favorite!, to see the more than 120 character life size figures that will tell you all about the history of Ushuaia, or unearth the story of the most scary and dangerous criminals at the Prison Museum. And please, don’t forget the local gastronomy! Ushuaia is the best place to eat seafood—try the finger-licking Blake Hake.

Day 2 – Ushuaia: Trekking & Canoeing in the National Park

Today we’ll pick you up to make a 8-10 hour long visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park, just 12 km (7.4 miles) away from the city and lying on the shore of the famous Channel sailed by Charles Darwin. Once at Ensenada Bay, you will have time to enjoy the view over the Beagle Channel before starting your hike along the coast.

Six kilometers (3.7 miles) of wild trail await, where you’ll discover native flora and wild fauna. Discover the remains left by the Yamanas, the native inhabitants of the área. After this 3 hour long hike, you will reach Lake Roca, where lunch will be served. After a full homemade picnic you will start the second part of this adventure.

Grab your oar and plunge into this 1 h 30 canoeing trip along Lapataia river (only available for children over 5 years old). Make it all the way till Lapataia Bay,  where the Panamerican Highway and  National Route 3 end at an awe-inspiring landscape. After discovering the unique vastness of this forbidding setting, we’ll take you back to your hotel so you can rest and enjoy another Patagonian evening.

Day 3 – Beagle Channel Cruise, last day of your Adventure in Argentina

In 1833 Charles Darwin sailed the Beagle Channel and discover something great. Today it is your turn: become another explorer of this channel, primitively named Onashaga Channel since the Onas where its first sailers.

You’ll make your way to the tourist pier (at downtown) to embark on a 3 hour long  boat trip  along the famous Channel (there’s a port tax of around 1-2 dollars you’ll have to pay). You will gain panoramas of Ushuaia Bay, where the city lies proudly crowned by the Martial Glacier. Unearth the diverse marine wildlife, such as cormorants (flying birds, closely related to penguins) and fur seals which frolic their time away on Alicia Island.

Argentina standing at your left and Chili at your right, you’ll sail this natural border till reaching the iconic end-of-the-world lighthouse, the ancient guard of the bay. On your way back, you’ll stop at Bridges Island to walk a wildlife interpretative path, hear about Yaman’s history (the native inhabitants) and see the largest shelly deposits of the region.

During the trip, you can enjoy a delicious hot chocolate with cookies or try the mate (strong green tea) the favorite Argentine drink. Once we get back to the port, you can make your way back to your hotel or stop by a local café or brewery to try the amber cream craft beer with a traditional Patagonian appetizer.

At the appropriate time we’ll  take you to the domestic airport or bus station, this will be the end of your trip. If you want to keep on exploring other Argentina tours check out our travelers’ favorites.

Say Hueque was great to work with and created a perfect trip for us!

I am happy to give feedback about our travels in Argentina! We had a great time!

1. I chose Say Hueque based on several things including great reviews, comprehensive custom tour offerings at good prices and personal service.

2. Agustin was very efficient and helpful in all aspects of the booking process. He created a perfect combination of tours in the selected destinations including all transfers. Payments were simple and easy via PayPal and it worked great that all three of us could pay individually. He was also very patient will all of my questions via email and wrote back promptly with advice and suggestions. He also communicated with me while we were in Argentina about concerns with a possible pilot’s strike by Aerolineas Argentina and helped resolve the changes that we needed to do both before and after the strike was resolved. Kudos to your emergency crew as well who were aware of everything that was going on with us and were right on top of things. I had to call them several times with issues related to the threatened strike and also a transfer at the end of our trip. Great job all round!

3. My favorite hotel was probably Dazzler Palermo though I would have liked a hotel that was a little closer to Recoleto or San Telmo areas as it turned out. Most of the other hotels had large rooms and friendly staff. Koi Aiken in El Calafate was also pretty far outside the center of town but we liked the hotel otherwise. The one place that we didn’t care for was De Los Andes in Ushuaia. The triple room we had was very small, barely room for three beds and we had to squeeze by one of the beds to get to the bathroom. The hotel seemed very old and needs some updating. The location was very nice though. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

5. We really liked all of our excursions in Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego hike and canoe, Trek to Esmerelda Lagoon and Beagle Channel cruise) but also the Peninsula Valdes tour to Punta Norte from Puerto Madryn because of all the animals that we saw that day.

6. Our two favorite guides were:
Tina for our walking tour in Buenos Aires. She took us to the southern part of the city to San Telmo and La Boca and was very easy to talk with and very informative.
Daniel in Ushuaia for our Tierra del Fuego hike and canoe and also the trek to Esmerelda Lagoon. He gave us two very good days of activity and is very knowledgeable about the area.

7. I think the only thing that we were disappointed in was the hotel in Ushuaia, otherwise we absolutely loved the entire trip! We all agreed that Say Hueque was great to work with and created a perfect trip for us! Thanks so much!

I will also plan to write a TripAdvisor review too in the next few days.

Everything was great

We chose to travel with Say Hueque based on the good reviews from Trip Advisor.

The booking process was excellent. Lujan was extremely efficient and helpful with putting together an itinerary that worked for us. We would also like to mention that Lujan was excellent with helping us change our itinerary plans to work around two internal flights that were cancelled by the airline at short notice. We really appreciated her prompt help. Thank you Lujan!

All of the hotels we stayed in were really good and the staff were extremely helpful. Our favourite was the hotel in Ushuaia because it was pretty modern, and I guess our least favourite was the hotel in El Chalten only because it was difficult to turn off the heater in the room (which wasn’t a big problem).

Our favourite excursion was the Beagle Channel boat cruise in Ushuaia. The tour company were excellent and it was a nice way to meet other people. The guide on the Beagle Channel boat cruise in Ushuaia was great.

Everything was great. The hotels, transfers and the tours were all very good. I would mention that the nature of the tours were mostly self-guided/independent compared to a typical group tour where you meet other people from the tour, but this was good for us given the flexibility.
