It’s time to escape the ordinary. Discover  the spectacular diversity and breathtaking panoramic landscapes of Patagonia during this immersive 7-day family expedition. This multigenerational vacation has the perfect combination of wildlife, off-the-beaten-path destinations and cultural immersion. Have a powerful experience whale watching at Península Valdés (Puerto Madryn) and spotting seals and sea elephants, and spend some quality family time in Bahía Bustamante. Plus, you’ll receive our “Argentina Adventure Kit” that will encourage your kids to learn about the destinations and interact with locals.

Day 1 - Welcome to Patagonia: Puerto Madryn

Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel in Puerto Madryn. Take your time to rest and use the facilities of the hotel. Spend some quality time with your kids discovering our “Argentina Adventure Kit”, a tool designed to make this journey an experiential learning travel experience. Following the Adventure Kit’s cards instructions, which will challenge your kids throughout the tour to engage with locals, collect fun facts and express their creativity to win a prize (delivered directly to your house once you get back).

You have different options to discover the city: you can take a walk along the coast and enjoy views of the peninsula’s tranquil waters (maybe you’ll see the sunset!), visit the Ecocentro (an interpretative center of sea life) or take a half-day tour to watch dolphins. Take a look at our Puerto Madryn Travel Guide for more information:

Day 2 - Península Valdés & Whale Watching in the Yellow Submarine

Today you will have the chance to discover the amazing wildlife reserve of Península Valdés. Get your camera ready to take amazing pictures of whales, sea elephants, sea lions, guanacos and rheas! It’s one of the top 10 family-friendly destinations in Argentina and a UNESCO World Heritage site. To get to Peninsula Valdes, you will cross an incredibly narrow strip of land sandwiched by the sea on either side. Further along the journey, you will arrive at Caleta Valdes, a large natural creek that is home to a colony of sea elephants that will happily pose for photos along the way. After admiring Caleta Valdes and its animal inhabitants, you will continue along the road as it winds through a crescent of golden cliffs overlooking a bright blue bay and the picturesque village of Puerto Piramides. This is a classic spot for whale watching. On this semi-submersible boat, prepare yourself for the unforgettable experience of observing the whales in their underwater world.

Why you will love it: you will enjoy a close-up and safe wildlife sightseeing experience and get relevant and interesting information from your specialised local guide.

Why your kids will love it: this submarine watching tour will take them close to the whale moms that come to the bay to have their babies, so close that it will seem as if you were diving with them. Your kids will learn about wildlife in an interactive way.

Day 3 - Puerto Madryn: Snorkel with Sea Lions

Embark on an unforgettable journey into the rich Patagonian coast, sailing along the immense sea to Punta Loma Natural Reserve, which is home to a lively colony of about 600 playful sea lions! This meaningful and authentic experience will be the most original way to approach to the particular wildlife of the area. You will be snorkeling and having fun with sea lions for around 45 minutes. But before that you will be instructed on what you’re about to see and experience: you will watch a 5 minute video and receive a manual. After that, you will get dressed to start your water family fun! You’ll depart in reduced groups of no more than 8 people.

7 years old is the minimum age required to do this tour.

Why you will love it: the sea lions need to feel safe to approach, so you’ll have to apply some teamwork techniques you’ve learned to make them feel comfortable, which will strengthen family bonds.

Why your kids will love it: sea lions are funny creatures and kids will really enjoy playing with them in their natural environment and learning how to use their snorkeling equipment.

Day 4 - Puerto Madryn / Bahía Bustamante experience

Today you will travel 270 km that exist between Puerto Madryn and Bahía Bustamante. You will be able to go over the off-the-beaten path roads of the interior of Patagonia, an area that few travelers have the chance to see. On the road, we will have a unique opportunity to visit the Dos Bahías Cape, where thousands of penguins come every year during breeding season, leaving in April to return the next spring. You’ll see them walking everywhere, with their characteristic and adorable clumsy style, between their nests and the sea.

After this first stop we will continue on our way to Bahía Bustamante lodge in Patagonia´s Atlantic coast, where you will spend 3 nights at one of the traditional “houses by the sea”. This remote seaside village on the northern arch of San Jorge Gulf, is entirely surrounded by nature, an area characterized by its relevant biological biodiversity. You can tell your kids that there are few places in the world that house such an amount and diversity of seabirds and marine mammals like Bahía Bustamante.

Bahía Bustamante experience is for sure a transformative travel adventure. It’s a great place to experience life as it has been for the last 100 years. Apart from the variety of outdoor activities available to explore landscapes and wildlife, the lodge has a reduced electricity  policy which encourages you to get out of your comfort zone. From sunset until late night electricity is supplied by an electric generator. Once the lights go out each house is still illuminated by battery lights. It’s your chance to spend some bonding family time far away from any electronic devices: we recommend taking flashlights and get outside with your kids to explore, watch the sunset or the starlit sky over the Patagonian steppe or, if there’s rough weather, spend some time at The Club playing table-football or choosing one of the board games available for guests.

Day 5 - Bahía Bustamante

It’s your chance to relax, read a book or make sand castles with your kids at the private beaches of crystal-clear water…or choose between a range of activities, all of which are ideal for nature lovers, and included in your itinerary. You just pick the one that you like best! Let’s take a look.

Visit to a Typical Patagonian Ranch

Bahía Bustamante is part of a group of three Estancias (ranches) that together make up more than 80.000 hectares. In each of the Estancias you may learn about the production process of wool and meat, and, depending on the season, you may participate in a day´s work at one of the Estancias. Visit the corrals and learn about the different activities: shearing, weaning, classification or marking of the sheep.

Take into account! Starting in August, the activity calendar of the Estancias  is very varied, and is constantly changing until the end of April. To give you an idea of the main attractions: shearing takes place in August (if you’re staying at Bahía Bustamante you will be able to participate in the shearing of around 20.000 sheep!), marking in November and December, weaning in January and February, classification of the animals towards the end of February and insemination in May.

Why you will love it: you’ll have the chance to be in contact with locals, get a first-hand learning experience and introduce your kids to a whole new world of traditions and skills.

Why your kids will love it: they will be in contact with animals and learn about life in the a typical ranch. To participate in some of the activities of a day’s work will make them feel more independent and closer to adults.

Day 6 - Bahia Bustamante

Another day in Patagonian paradise. Take your time to have breakfast viewing the tranquil water of the bay, and then take a look at our recommended activities for today:

Visit and Sailing along Malaspina Cove visiting Sea Lion and Seabird colonies

We will meet at the grocery store and assess the weather report and the tide tables to determine whether sailing is possible. We sail towards the Vernacci Island visit islands in the bay to see the Sea Lion colonies (4,000 animals during the breeding season), Penguins (100,000, from October to March) and colorful Marine Bird colonies.

Why you will love it: you’ll enjoy views of the bay from the sea and help your kids take the best / funniest picture of sea lions’ and penguins’ daily routines.

Why your kids will love it: they will take a boat ride (which is always an adventure) through the cove and go spotting wild animals settled in an island.

Visit to the Petrified Forest

You’ll take a 4×4 ride across our beautifully remote land for nearly 18 miles and after a moderate trekking you’ll reach the Petrified Forest. Here you’ll travel 60 million years back in time as we explore the forest, spot petrified trees and pieces of wood. In this remote landscape you’ll have the chance to sight lesser rheas, guanacos, maras, and other native fauna.

Why you will love it: you’ll discover a truly particular ancient landscape with your kids accompanied by a guide who will teach you about different geological eras in a friendly way.

Why your kids will love it: there are PETRIFIED trees … hands up for little explorers!

Apart from these activities, you can choose: to make a historic tour around the lodge and learn about the seaweed industry (how it’s processed and its different uses), visit the Magellan Penguins Island (only 15 minutes away from the lodge), among others.

There are other activities you can do, not included in the full board, such as horseback riding, private navigation and island exploration.

You did a phenomenal job, all the best in everything!

Hello dear friends,

Thank you Patty, Vera & Yuna for organizing and helping us go through an unforgettable journey.

First learned about SayHeque in 2014 while searching for help organizing a tour from Brasil to Iguazu - I wrote to some companies and SayHeque were the most helpful and caring and organized. Chose to work with you because of good pass experience, the way you cared about my and my children's personal needs and being kind and informal and caring and your very good organizing and planning ability and choice of excursions.

The whole trip, for myself and my daughter Ma'ayan was a fantastic and unique experience - from the connection with you and the planning more than half a year ago to the recent planning to helping us and taking us through the trip - it was a joy working with you. Also a good planning of activities vs. time to rest.

The way you fixed and adjusted the whole itenerary - from the start, the choice of activities, places , tour companies, transfers - fantastic. Then taking care that all works and of course helping us when we got stuck because of a cancelled flight - the way you rescheduled rhings and cared for us - we felt like we have a family taking care of us in Buenos Aires while we are in the wilderness of Patagonia.

Thank you for the recommendations about things to do in spare time - when I followed them they were always very good.
Last 2 days in Buenos Aires which I planned myself were great too - and the way you organized things was the inspiration for me (and I always knew that if I have trouble I can call you)

There were many highlights - the best was helping us and rescheduling the plans when things got mixed up because of cancelled flight - also the feeling I got from you that I have someone I can trust in a far away country, especially as I was with a child. Of course many of the tours.

Our favorite hotel was actually Stella Australis ship - high class, great-unbelievable fantastic personal care, guidance and activity, of course Bahia Bustamante - staff and location and activities, also Kau-Yatun in El-Calafate (very helpful staff, fantastic facilities), Piren in P.Madryn (staff, location, facilities)

Almost all excursions were great but 3 stand out and were unforgettable - Stella Australis, Bahia Bustamante and Snorkeling with Lobos Marinos.
Punta Tumbo, Whale watching (actually they could do it better but the event itself is amazing) and Estancia Habersteron also fantastic.

Everybody on the Stella Australis, the guide on the Estancia Harbersteron tour, Gabriel on the Parque Nacional TDF tour, Matias and his guides in B.Bustamonte and the guides of Master Divers P.Madryn (Matias and the the girl in the reception - forgot her name, sorry). Also the guide on the Punta Tumbo tour (and the whole Huinca Travel agency staff) were great.
Also would like to thank the drivers : From BSAS EZE airport to AJP airport, drivers on the 2 TDF tours, driver on the Punta tumbo tour.

Not much to improve – just some comments: Peninsula Valdez and whale watching was a little bit rushed on one hand and time wasted on the other hand - the place changed and it should be let known that one cannot really see Elephant Seals from close by, and it was nice if whale watching was less crowded, explained better - and i would have gotten a better explanation about the option of buying DVD / photos of the experience. Patagonia IF hotel in Puerto Natales is not so good - nice and caring staff but bad facilities, sorry.

Again to team SayHeque - TODA RABA - may god bless you!!! See you again asap
